Leipzig Old Town Hall From Beautiful Renaissance
The Leipzig Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) is one of the most beautiful German Renaissance town halls.
Built in 1557 in only nine months construction period by the former mayor Hieronymus Lotter, it dominates due to its length the entire market place.
Probably due to the short construction period, the two-storeyed building had to be reorganized several times and received thereby sporadic changes in the past centuries. Thus the building possesses today a baroque tower on the main side, to which the building its lowness takes.
Today, the old town hall is one of the last and most important Renaissance buildings on German soil.
Worth seeing inside the building are Großer Festsaal, Ratsstube, the Mendelssohn-Zimmer, Landschaftszimmer des Spätbarock (landscape room of the late baroque), Rüstkammer (preparation chamber), Kramerraum, and Schatzkammer (vault).
Nice, picturesque building, isn't it? But it gets even better! The Leipzig Hauptbahnhof is waiting for you...
