Here Are Two Famous Leipzig Churches
Here are now two very famous Leipzig Churches.
The fist one is the Thomaskirche, which is world-wide well-known as effect place of Johann Sebastian Bach and the Thoman Chorus.
The Thomanerchor was created 1212 and is thus one of the oldest boy choirs of Germany.
In the course of history again and again important composers and exercising musicians dressed the outstanding office of the Thomaskantor (= chief of the chorus).
The Reformator Martin Luther preached here at Whitsun in 1539. And Johann Sebastian Bach worked here from 1723 to 1750. The church was heavily damaged by air raid on December 4th, 1943.
Also, some monuments are placed in and around the building.
The second of Leipzig Churches is the Nikolaikirche. This one was the starting point of the peaceful revolution of the GDR in 1989 with following downfall of Berlin Wall and reunification of Germany on October 3rd, 1990.
