The Nuremberg Airport has been opened more than 50 years ago, on April 6, 1955, after a 1 year construction period.

In particular Lufthansa hesitated to accept the beginner to the route network at first.

That changed in October 1956, however, with the opening of the regular transport service Frankfurt-Nuremberg-Dusseldorf. Promptly followed other net carrier like the Netherlands KLM.

Then, the press admiringly reported in October 1958 over the sensation that "a correct jet, a Caravelle of Air France set to landing in Nuernberg for the first time." On July 12, 1970 the Nuremberg Airport experienced the first attendance of a Jumbo Jet. This event lured 20,000 visitors.

But not only this, also the travel industry boomed like never before. International destinies such as Rhodos and Fuerteventura have been added to this airport.

In the 90s, the Nuremberg Airport has ben reconstructed and received a new Terminal West. Its opening party attracted thousands of visitors.

Finally, in 1997, the airport received an own U-Bahn station, which offers an convinient access to the airport.

The Nuremberg Airport has the airport code NUE.
