Stuttgart TV Tower — World's First TV Tower!
Stuttgart TV Tower was taken on February 5th, 1956, after a construction period of 20 months, in enterprise.
With its impressive height of 217m it is the Ur-model for the TV towers in the entire world.
Originally, at that time, the South German broadcast wanted to place its antennas for the radiant emittance of the television and to the UKW radio transmissions on one of the then usual 200 meters high iron latticed masts, which were secured with wires rope.
This monstrous project called Stuttgart engineer Professor Fritz Leonhardt on the plan. He was famous as a bridge builder and stress analyst. His idea was, instead of an ugly lattice mast, to build an elegant concrete needle, and to provide it with an touristic and gastronomic usable tower basket with viewing platforms.
You will have a comprehensive view over the city, the vineyard landscape of the Neckartales, the Swabian country and the Alb, to the Black Forest and to the Odenwald. On many days, you can also see the panorama of the mountain summits of the Germans, Austrian and Swiss alps. Awesome!
In the tower basket of Stuttgart TV Tower you will find the panorama café. It is the highest bar of Stuttgart. And at the tower foot, there is a beer garden with some nice people.
Now we go down, down, down again, and go to visit some animals...
