The Berlin Stadium or Olympic Stadium Berlin
The Berlin Stadium called The Olympic Stadium in Berlin Germany has 74,500 spectator seats and is considered now as a Five-Star stadium. The change and the complete roofing cost federation and citizenry of Land Berlin 242 million euro as fixed price.
In the Olympic Stadium, Hertha BSC Berlin holds its home games. In the year 1974, the stadium was part-roofed for the Fifa Soccer World Cup 1974, which was hosted in Germany as well.
In the years 2000 to 2004, the Olympiastadion Berlin (German name) was fundamentally converted and modernized, after drafts of the architect's office Gerkan, Marg and partner, for the Fifa Soccer World Cup 2006, while maintaining the sport enterprise. The match surface was lowered around some ranks, in order to create a closer atmosphere for soccer games.
With the change work the interests of the monument protection were to be considered. The old natural stones were individually sandblasted. That way, about 70% of the historical built volumes could be survived. Outstanding characteristics of the converted Olympic Stadium are the now all ranks comprehensive roof and the blue Tartan course. The blue colour of the previous red course was criticized by the monument protection.
The official inauguration of the new stadium took place on July 31, and August 1, 2004 with a huge concert meeting. On July 9, 2006 the final match of the Fifa Soccer World Cup 2006 had been held in the Berlin Stadium.
